NLCC meeting 1st June2023 1930hrs by Zoom
1. Present – Dave Wrigglesworth DW, Marylin Macdonald MMD, Ann Marie Cameron AM, Lisa Glaze LG, Brian Pearson BP, Marie MacLachlan MML.
2. Apologies – Karl Spierling KS
3. Adoption of previous meeting-proposed by AM, seconded by LG.
4. Treasurers Report - £3122.65
5. Planning - No applications of concern. We do all note the current influx of applications for change of use to holidays lets, likely due to new holiday let licensing laws in place. The CC feels strongly about the buying of properties for holiday lets when there is a shortage of housing in the area. We will monitor this and DW will bring up the matter within the community alliance group.
6. Matters arising.
I. Village Hall – Survey has been done; we were advised against letting anyone use the hall. We await the full survey. Next meeting is Tuesday 1st Aug at 1930hrs at Oak Cottage.
II. NLCA – Bedding for pots arrived. Community BBQ date set - 24th June at the shore in North Ballachulish (Ballachulish Bay, accessible south of the petrol station at that Scottish water access road.) Bring you own food and drinks. Iain Jenner will be addressing the ward committee to apply for the Capital Regeneration fund. Also, applications welcome for the Project Manager position for the Barn project.
III. Onich Hotel – No further correspondence from the owner. Planning has been granted for the path to the beach that isn’t owned by Onich Hotel. It is not clear who owns the said land.
IV. Forestry Land Scotland – new road application for funding refused. DW has contacted Mr Hunt to request a meeting. DW wants HC at the meeting too to discuss what can be done. Date to follow. The road effects the Barn project.
V. Newsletter – All submissions will be complete to be printed very shortly. Note of the CC AGM will be included.
VI. Inchree – DW to install plaque if KS hasn’t already done so.
VII. Website – BP will contact GRAPL, he is looking to make the system currently used easier and more user friendly for all to add and edit. BP suggests a redesign of the website. MML has set up google drive to share documents. Everyone is agreement for Brian to proceed with implementing improvements.
VIII. Posters for AGM are up around the community. Thursday 6th July at 1930hrs by Zoom.
IX. Corran Ferry- Maid of Glencoul back imminently, DW has requested that the speed limited stretch shortened to be more likely adhered to. DW attended meeting, general feeling amongst communities is that not enough being done towards looking at a fixed link. Communities will be consulted so we can represent the wishes within Nether Lochaber of the residents to which we represent. The cost of one electric ferry and slipway is £50mil, with the M.V Corran backing up the new electric one. It was identified that a battery for an electric ferry cost £2 million and would hopefully last for 10years (estimate). Survey will hopefully be out within next 2 weeks. DW will keep everyone updated on any fresh progress.
7. AOB
I. DW – letter sent regarding stock fencing down near Ballachulish Bridge, no response has been made. Concern has been made about the dumping of all kinds of materials within the farmland which is within an NSA. This matter is ongoing, and we will hopefully receive a response before our next meeting. DW will email all councillors regarding action.
II. BP – speed in North Ballachulish. We will ask the local police if the speed enforcement van could be more present in the area.
III. MML - Hail and ride. A local resident keeps missing buses.
IV. AM – Noticed all the markings on the road, collectively we are wondering if the road will finally get resurfaced.
V. MMD - subsidence on the road just north of Onich stores. It has been mentioned.
