January 2024 News Update

A Happy New Year from Nether Lochaber Community Association!

Dear Member,

May I take this opportunity to say a Happy New Year to you.  There are lots of exciting things happening around the community, and we want to share some of these with you on a more regular basis, so you are up to date and informed about what the Community Association is doing in the area. This email is the first of what will be monthly communications with you.

  1. Activity Days

Building the Tables

These activity days take place on a regular basis on the first Sunday of each month, and this means that the next activity day will be on Sunday 4th February 2024 at 10 am.  Work needs done on the wall and cleaning up at Creag Mhor, so we welcome more volunteers to help us.  Those who have had training in walling will be contacted separately, however for others a helping hand in cutting away brambles and general clearing up of the area would be appreciated. Tools are provided for activity days, so you just need to come along and join in the fun.

  1. 500 Club

Do you want the chance to win some cash* each month?  Then please join our 500 club!  Not only do you have a chance of winning a prize, but you will be contributing to the regular income of the Association, which contributes to making Nether Lochaber a better place to live, work and visit. Join for as little as £2.50 per month.  Winners' numbers will be published monthly via our Facebook page.

* The prize fund varies with number of members. At present the prizes are 1st: £25, 2nd: £15 and 3rd: £10.

  1. AGM

Our AGM will take place on Thursday 29th February 2024 at 7:30 pm in the Nether Lochaber Church Hall in Onich, as notified in a separate email to this.  All members of the community are welcome to attend, so please spread the word.  (Although please note that only NLCA members have the right to vote at the meeting).  A couple of office bearers will need to stand down this year as they complete their three-year tenure, so if you’d like to become our new Chair or Treasurer please do get in touch.  We are aware that there is a fantastic mix of skills and experience in the village that could be put to good use.  We’d love to hear from you.

  1. Inchree Barn

AThe Community Association formally took ownership of Inchree Barn on Friday 10th November.  The hard work now begins as our Project Officer, Lucy Cooke, applies for funding from various foundations and grant givers.  The Inchree Steering Group and NLCA trustees would like to thank fellow trustee Clara Barnett for having taken the lead with funding applications for two years prior to us being able to employ someone to do this.

  1. Events

We were sorry not to have sourced a venue for the ceilidh this year, however there are plans afoot for next year – watch this space! There are other events in the pipeline, and we will update you on these as soon as arrangements are made.
