Minutes of Meeting held 10th October 2024
The Minutes of the Meeting held on 10th October 2024 were Proposed by Marie MacLachlan and Seconded by Kathleen Cameron.
Matters Arising from Minutes
None.
The Committee agreed to hear from PC Stephen Cooper and PC Roddy Sandeman next.
Police Report
The Meeting noted from PC Cooper that nothing much had changed since his last update to the Committee and following discussion it was noted that:-
- There were currently four Police Officers stationed at Glencoe and that the fifth post had been vacant for some time;
- The Police tried to get into the Schools as much as possible in order to talk with the pupils;
- With regard to speeding in the area it was hoped to set up police speed checks in the not too distant future;
- MMD had not heard back from the Chairman of Glencoe & Glen Etive Community Council with regard to their bid to extend the 40mph speed limit through Glencoe and PC Cooper confirmed he would speak to the Link Officer for Glencoe to ascertain the current position;
- Crime wise there was nothing to report but there had been a couple of recent vehicle crashes at Keppanach;
- The contact telephone numbers for the Police were 999 for emergencies, 101 for non-emergencies and for anything else they could be contacted by e-mail via the Police Website.
- Action Points
- Glen Righ Hydro Scheme – As LG had not received a response from David Colthart, Director re the community payment due under the Glenrigh Hydro Scheme, MML advised she had e-mailed Martin Foster another of the Directors regarding the payment and if no reply was forthcoming she would follow this up with a formal letter to David Colthart.
- Newsletter – Noted (i) MM had information from the Chairman of the Village Hall Committee as well as details of the times of the School Christmas performances; (ii) MMD agreed to get dates for the Christmas Services from the Rev Malcolm Kinnear; (iii) the Newsletter would include a section on the linkage of the Parish; (iv) Don Michie had agreed to print the Newsletter and Ann-Marie Cameron had agreed to print the address labels; (v) KC and MMD offered to help with putting all the Newsletters into envelopes; (vi) it was hoped the Newsletter would be ready to post by the end of November.
- Notice Board – Perspex Door – KS had not had a chance to look into this yet but would try and do so before the next meeting.
- Lochaber Place Plan – Noted MML had e-mailed Dot Ferguson, Highland Council re support for this and was also going to contact Jane Young for further information.
- Community Website – Noted MML had sorted out e-mail addresses for Members and was contacting Chris Boles for assistance to get these up and running. Members would all have NLCC e-mail addresses and personal e-mail addresses would not be made public.

Secretary
MV Corran - MML advised that she had received information that the MV Corran refit commenced at the end of October and it was hoped that the Ferry would be back in service by Christmas. In the meantime the Maid of Glen Coull was back in operation. It was noted there was to be a Teams Meeting of the Corran Ferry Steering Group in November.
Building Resilience in Your Community – the Committee noted from MML details of a Resilience Fund operating under this scheme. MM advised that applications for funding had to be submitted by 31st January 2025. MM to circulate funding application to Committee Members and also put details on the Community Council notice boards.
Treasurer
LG confirmed that there was a balance of £3,522.32 in the NLCC Bank Account and that the only outgoing had been £10 for the hire of the Church Hall.

VILLAGE HALL COMMITTEE
It was noted re the purchase of the Village Hall from the NLCC that (i) a new Bank Account was being created; (ii) the Hall Committee had received quotes from three Solicitors to carry out the legal work; (iii) they had the names of two people who could possibly carry out a feasibility study; (iv) tickets were now available for the Christmas Raffle.
NLCA
Noted the following events were to take place;-
- Weaving Workshop in Nether Lochaber Church Hall 5th November;
- Activity Day at Creag Mhor to tidy up the area around the large Mosaic on 9th November from 10.00am;
- Knitting Circle with Sharon Pearson in Nether Lochaber Church Hall on 12th November;
- The Inchree Barn Project - Drop-in Event being held at Roam West Friday 15th – Sunday 17th November to allow members of the public to check out the latest plans for the project prior to these being submitted for planning approval;
- Crofting for the Future- The Scottish Crofting Federation are to hold courses in the Nether Lochaber Church Hall on Friday 15th and Saturday 16th November;
- Annual Ceilidh in Alltsheallach in January 2025.
- AOCB
- After hearing from MML the Committee unanimously agreed to donate £50 to the local Children’s Christmas Party and £50 to the Afternoon Club Christmas Party.
- The Committee then heard from KC with regard to public access to the Bunree Caravan Site during the forthcoming upgrading works. It was noted that despite this not being a current public right of way locals had always used it as such and following discussion it was agreed to support the locals in having this route established as a right of way.
- Date of Next Meeting
It was agreed that the next Meeting of the NLCC would be held on Monday 2nd December 2024 at 7.30pm in the Nether Lochaber Church Hall.
